Sexual abuse of minors has become a regular report in the media. Pedophiles get away with their act leaving a trail of pain for victims and

The Pedophiles in Africa claim its the fault of the devil while in the Western world , the culprit pleads insanity. The bottom line is that eventually, the

Pedophile gets away with the crime and reintegrates into the society to continue his sorrowful trail. It is not only in Africa that they Pedophiles get

away with their acts. It is disturbing to note that there is no punishment nor deterrent to curb this anomaly. Indeed one may ask, why do Pedophiles get away with their act.

Why Pedophiles get away with their act.

There are many reasons why Pedophiles get away with their act. These are

1. Lack of Evidence:

In most African countries, there is normally no evidence. There is no successful investigation because of lack of funds. Parents hesitate in pursuing the case because of shame. The courts can only convict when there is evidence.

2. Lack of witnesses:

Most times, Pedophiles molest children in secret. There are usually no witnesses present . The child is the only witness and may not be able to recount efficiently. The trauma of the abuse does not equip her to fight against a calculated monster.

3. Corrupt Law Enforcement Personnel:

In most African countries, Pedophiles get away with the crimes because there is corruption in the law enforcement agencies. Many Pedophiles are

rich and can easily bribe the corrupt personnel so the case never flies. At the Police Station, the Police ridicule, disgrace, and make sport of parents and children with such complaints. Social media will circulate the story and they will never get justice.

4. Tedious Litigation:

If the sexual abuse case goes to court, there is too much delay in the legal system. It becomes long, cumbersome and tedious. This discourages

families from pursuing the case to completion. The several adjournments drags on. Sometimes it drags on for years and the abused child is more traumatized.

5. Cost of Litigation:

Many abused children are from poor homes. The abuser may be wealthier than the child’s family. Such poor families, would not have the resources

to fund the court case. Even public defenders are not free. Considering the inability to fund, families ask for out of court settlement and the Pedophile walks.

6. Community Intervention:

Parents do not escalate the case of abuse because there is no support from community. People wrongly advise them to let it go. This is because abusers are family members, or close friends. They insist God will punish the person and yet he goes on his serial wreck of children.

7. Protection of the victim:

African has a close knit society. As a result, people know one another. Pedophiles are known to the child so Parents want to shield the identity of the

child from the public . Especially from the Press who will go to town with the story. Pedophiles will go to any length to conceal their activities so can harm the child. Parents also want to protect the child from more harm.

8. Religious involvement:

A lot of abuse happens in church and the church will want to hide it. The religious nature of Africans may steer the family to seek spiritual redress.

The church will do deliverance on the culprit to cast out the responsible demon while the child burns in the fire of destruction. The Pedophile does not stop. He changes church and gets better in his consuming crime.

9. Laws protecting a Child:

The legal system has laws that protect children. There is no enforcement. Some of the legislature themselves break these laws. In Nigeria , there is the Child Rights Act but is there enforcement?

The Pedophile still gets away with his acts even in Western countries. The system there seems to work better than that in Africa but it fails at the point of probation for the culprit. He goes back into the society to only continue his mayhem.

Justice maybe served if society agrees that Pedophilia is a mental disorder. It is this facts that points us to treatment as a first step to preventing it.
